Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
Hii blog, I’m back!! Today begins the title research adventure. After much research over the last week my group and I have decided on ‘Art of the title’ website due to many reasons. One of them being how easy it is to manage. The website has a really easy layout to understand in comparison with other websites. My group and I also appreciate the fact the websites has articles on different filmmakers. This website compare to other options has recent movies which is very important. We live in a time where we all like a “clean” look so it’s very important to get modern ideas. Modern movies hold a different feeling compare to 80’s to 90’s movies. This is why we chose art of the titles from all the other options out there. Bye blog!! Enjoy the holidays.

Movie conventions research: ‘A Quite Place’ (2018)

Image
What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? Some conventions that were similar to my final task and this movie are the camera angles used such as close-up shots or low angles. Another convention that I will use is a similar setting such as how the film decided to use an isolated setting to further enhance the feeling of suspense and danger. In the movie, there is also the use of natural lighting and ambient diegetic sounds that help with establishing the setting. What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked? I liked that the movie included a wide variety of camera angles. I like how the use of these various camera angles helped to set the mood of the scenes and highlight the emotions of the characters. I also enjoyed how the movie made use of different transitions to represent different things such as a change in time or locations. What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you and you a

Movie Conventions Research: 'The Little Things' (2021)

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This movie has very scary/suspense music and sounds such as speeding cars, heavy breathing, and crackling in bushes. The lighting and colors are dark and dull. The use of props includes weapons and blood, along with other horror props. The acting of the characters uses facial expressions which show fear and suspicion. The different sets include abandoned areas at night in the middle of nowhere, dark buildings in the city, and so on. The editing techniques such as dissolve and shot/reverse shot help add to the suspense feeling. What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? I liked the use of lighting, the darkness creates a sense of unknown. I liked the diegetic and non-diegetic sounds which really helped add to the feelings of the scenes. I also liked the way the characters were acting, it gave it a mysterious/suspicious feel. What elements of the genre did the movie have tha

Movie Conventions Research: 'The Black Phone' (2021)

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This movie has dark and dull colors/lighting. The movie has conflict in the beginning between certain characters which creates a worried feeling. There is certain angles shot of one character which can lead you to tell he's trouble. The costumes are basic outfits like jeans and t-shirts. There is little to no makeup on the actors and actresses. The music playing creates a suspenseful feeling. There is a fade out right before the title cards that gives a sense of 'something just went wrong'. In the title cards, there are scary things shown that relate to the movie and what had happened before they started with the cards. What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? I liked the use of multiple different props. I liked the title cards and how they kind of showed the beginning of the storyline. I liked the way they did the lighting/colors, it helped add to the genre.

Genre reserch: Decision!

Image
Hii blog! Me and my group have made a decision well anticipated. During class, we had a debate on which was the best and most accessible option, we agreed that if we want to make then best film it had to be interesting for all of us. This is why we decided on horror! Honestly, it’s the one genre that would not only keep us interested but push us to our limit on learning new things. We’re so excited for this project and all of the incoming knowledge. See you soon blog!!

Genre research: Comedy

Image
Another genre we’re interested in was comedy!  Common camera angles, movement, and shots:   A type of cams used in comedy films are wide shots. They are used to capture the whole scene and incorporate every element including characters, and the environment into the shot. They also provide the ability to show visual gags, reveal funny situations, and showcase physical comedy. Another type of cam is a close-up. Close-ups reveal facial expressions, reactions, and nuances that contribute to comedic timing and deliver. Lastly, another type of angle is a low angle. This helps employ the effects of comedic effects, making characters appear larger than life, and emphasizing physical comedy.  Common mis-en-scene:  Some mis-en-scenes that are used are exaggerated costumes. Exaggerated costumes can enhance physical comedy and contribute to the visual humor of the characters. Lastly, there can be props for physical comedy. Cleverly chosen and utilized props contribute to visual gags, slapstick com

Genre research: Mystery

Image
Another genre my group is interested in is: Mystery  Common camera angles in mystery: Long shots, Two shots, Closeups, Wide shots, high, low, and aerial angles. Pans and tilts are also used. Common Mis-En-Scene in mystery: Dark hues and subdued lighting are used in mystery films to evoke mystery and suspense. This could also be done purposefully within the plot to keep certain details from the main character. Urban settings are frequently used in mystery films. This is done to make the audience feel comfortable, as this is a familiar environment and could make the audience feel as if it could be them in the circumstance. Characters in mysteries are frequently clothed in everyday attire. The goal is to make it seem nonfictional as possible. Common Editing in mystery: Shot/Reverse shot to show both sides of a conversation, flashbacks used when resolving a mystery, and black and white filters may be used in a flashback. Common sounds in mystery: non-diegetic music is frequently used in my

Genre research of horror!

Image
One genre we thought of was Horror! Common camera angles used in horror videos/movies would be high-angles often used to make characters appear vulnerable, low-angle to make characters look more dominant (often the bad one), Dutch angles are also used to create a sense of imbalance and close-ups are used to show fear on someone’s eyes or show a curvature smile. Common mis-en-scene in horror films are a dark setting in a rural location away from everyone, props often used are weapons such as knives, axes and chainsaws that would create a painful death,   Black, red, grey and brown would all be colours considered for a horror film as they all signify danger and tragedy, m ost people (mainly victims) in horror films look like the are dressed casually but a lot of effort is put into their outfits to show hints of their role and personality in the movie,  t he weaker characters in the frame are the ones who are opposite the camera on the floor showing how positioning affects how the film i

Our Pitch

Image
Pitch A : A couple plans quickly fails as they caught and deceive the mom. Pitch B: A teenage boy spends his night closing a restaurant and get chased, what happens next? Discuss Pitch A : We want to do pitch A because we do have access to a house facilitating the location. It would also be convenient due to the timing being flexible allowing us to do it at any of our houses anytime after school. We would also have a more causal filming environment because we have more freedom instead of being restricted. Then again, the house would be a harder place to make spooky for the type of film we want to make. Also, the house has dogs which could be a distraction for us during the filming process. Discuss Pitch B : We want to do Pitch B because we would have access to an establishment due to Owen’s work environment which would make it easier for a location. It would be convenient because it’s an easier place to make spooky due to the lighting making it easier. It has more of a downside to it

My crew: Movie!

Image
H ii blog, I’m back to introduce my group for the final task!! My group is  my two of my dear friends from my media class, Owen and Michelle. Owen and Michelle have been my friends since day one in the class. I was already familiar with Michelle because of a mutual friend. Owen and me became friends in the class. I like Owen and Michelle because they’re scholars and do their work in time. I know if i worked with them we will have a neat and beautiful project. I choose to work with them because in my opinion they’re one in the few people in the class that take work seriously and put their all into an assignment and to not the assignments that have the highest percentage in class. I’m very excited to work with them again because of all of our personalities would be in one video. All of our personalities mixed together with the process of choosing the movie really showed how different all three of us are. At first, we had agreed in a genre which is: terror It was hard to come to a concl

Introduction to my final task!!

Image
Hiii Blog, I’m back and excited to start my final task ! My name is Roselyn Rodriguez but my friends call me Rose, I’m 15 years old and a sophomore in Fort Lauderdale High-School. I’m originally from Caracas, Venezuela and came to the US at 10 years old not knowing any english. In over 5 years i’ve been able to improve my english and make it my second language!!  I have an older brother, younger sister and two Pit-bulls who are in theory my siblings. I love the beach and spending time with friends, I actually celebrated my Quince (fifteenth birthday) at South Beach surrounded by friends. I like doing well in school (academic validation is my guilty pressure) which inspired me into entering NJHS (National Junior Honor Society) and Cambridge. I dislike people who are too self-centered and end up pushing friends away by selfishness. Honestly, speaking in Spanish is one of my favorite things ever (even if my mom makes fun of me for the spanglish). Music is such a key to my life, I like p
