How to make a short film?

Image
Hii blog!! A fter watching the Youtube video entitled "How to Make a Short Film",  I have taken away a few key points that I would like to share. (Peep my 2025 vision board). 1. "Write what you know you can pull off" This idea helped me realize the importance of realism. Basically, this point emphasizes the need to focus on what is possible based on what resources and budget are available, instead of committing to unrealistic ideas. This means advice should help greatly in my groups short film process as we are students who are  2. "Focus on setups and payoffs" Setups and payoffs are important in film as they help tell a story in an unexpected way. In film setoffs are considered details or elements that are introduced early on, and payoffs are the unanticipated results they later produce. The video emphasizes the important difference in action, story, and emotional setup and payoffs and their role in film. The suggestion paying off multiple forms of setups...

Comparing Le Jetée, the short, and 12 Monkeys, the full-length movie

Image
Hi blog!! We’re back!! Today we will be comparing the 12 monkeys video and the article.   Part |: - My takeaway from this video is that there are many key differences between films and photo novels, and those differences are essential to understand how an audience perceives different media forms. This includes but is not limited to acting, plot, story-telling, and editing. - Some good information I gathered while processing this video was how important the plot is as well as a climax to a film. It is hard to write a script, but as good as other elements of a film may be, without a plot there is nothing your audience can grip onto for the duration of the film and can be the downfall of what could've been great. It is good to have an idea but it is crucial to be able to execute it. - I envision this helping me through my short film process by helping me think more about whether or not an audience understands my film based off the script and not just whether or not I understand it. It...

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie

Image
• Short film: The shirt film ‘9’ was visually striking story set in a post-apocalyptic world. This is developed by the strong focus on the visual storytelling, atmosphere and sound design. The lack of dialogue and the drastic plot make the concept open to interpretation. The director, Shane Acker’s experimental directorial styles emphasis on the mood rather than the traditional character development. This was done by the texture and lighting which added to the mysterious tone. The animation is detailed which makes their world feel eerie and mysterious. • Full-length film: The full-length expands on the world and characters, adding backstory, dialogue and a more traditional narrative structure. While the animation remained a classic, the Hollywood-style conventions. This included a clear hero’s journey and resolution, making it more accessible but took away what made the film truly unique, Th e characters gain distinct personalities, and the emotion stakes are heightened but some of t...

Our pitch: Short film

Image
Pitch A: A mafia rival’s boss goes undercover as an ally to avenge the death of her brother.  Pitch B:  A secret witch pretends to fall in love with people and then turns them into legos, which she then collects.  Thought process behind: Pitch A: For this one, it would be very accessible and easy to record since we have access to many cool places due to our accessibility to the city. We can also use the support from our friends to record and an act on it. This would be very fun and we would have no major issue since this can all be done with the use of angles and lighting. It would be such a fun option. We can have complete creative freedom while recording and the opportunity to make great memories.  Thought process behind: Pitch B: For this one although it seems like a great idea it will be sort of difficult to film. First, we would have to use around five to ten legos which could be harder to get the right on fitting with the right person. Second, it would b...

Our Genre will be…

Image
Drums rolls please.. Hi blog, happy holidays. Over this break, Sabi, Char and I have had multiple calls to make sure we choose the best genre possible for our last film in our media class. We’ve put a lot of time and thought into this since it’s our last one ever and we must make it a special one. If you guys didn’t know we have a main writer in our group aka Charlize and she included Sabi and I in the writing process of many films exploring all of our different researched genres (stay tuned for those blogs). This lead us into the decision of choosing: Thriller. We choose this as a group to maintain it interesting and do something different for our big project. Last year, I had a different group and we decided to choose horror, but this year i put in my input to make it fun and to be able to give my all to this project. Since we have an inspiring producer in our group we figured it would be easier to record and act for a thriller film instead of for example, a comedy. A comedy sho...

My crew: Final task!

Image
H ii blog, I’m back to introduce my group for the final task!! My group is  my two of my dear friends from my media class, Charlize and Sabrina have been my friends since day one in the class. I was already familiar with Charlize because of a mutual friend. Sabrina and me became friends in the class. I like them because they’re scholars and do their work in time. I know if i worked with them we will have a neat and beautiful project. I choose to work with them because in my opinion they’re one in the few people in the class that take work seriously and put their all into an assignment and to not the assignments that have the highest percentage in class. I’m very excited to work with them again because of all of our personalities would be in one video. All of our personalities mixed together with the process of choosing the movie really showed how different all three of us are. At first, we had agreed in a genre which is: thriller, It was hard to come to a conclusion for a genre bec...

Hey, I’m back!!!

Image
Hi Blog, I’m back for a final project! My name is Roselyn Rodriguez but my friends call me Rose, I’m 16 years old and a junior in Fort Lauderdale High-School. I’m originally from Caracas, Venezuela and came to the US at 10 years old not knowing any english. In over 5 years i’ve been able to improve my english and make it my second language!!  I have an older brother, younger sister and two Pit-bulls who are in theory my siblings. I love the beach and spending time with friends, I actually celebrated my Quince (fifteenth birthday) at South Beach surrounded by friends. I like doing well in school (academic validation is my guilty pressure) which inspired me into entering NJHS (National Junior Honor Society) and Cambridge. I dislike people who are too self-centered and end up pushing friends away by selfishness. Honestly, speaking in Spanish is one of my favorite things ever (even if my mom makes fun of me for the spanglish). Music is such a key to my life, I like pretty...
